While it is no secret that effective health data exchange comes with a wide-range of challenges, one organization has been breaking down interoperability barriers since 2012 – DirectTrust.

The organization is an alliance of health IT and health care provider organizations that aim to support secure, interoperable health information exchange via the Direct message protocols. And, this effort is paying off. DirectTrust facilitated 47.8 million health data exchange transactions in the first quarter of 2018 – a 90 percent increase from the same time period last year.
